Plot Summary[]

XBomberCrewpatch Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

X-Bomber continues under its own power after its rescue from the black hole by the Skull, but the crew are puzzled by its abrupt disappearance immediately after rescuing them. PPA detects a habitable planet for X-Bomber to set down on in order to make repairs.

The Alliance Cruiser unfortunately is not far behind, Captain Orion reports to Commander Makara, telling her that X-Bomber is landing on Alloria, a planet with a volcano with "ferocious creatures" inhabiting it. Makara then plans to use that information to her advantage by attacking them after they have landed and bury them under a sea of lava.

Meanwhile the X-Bomber lands. PPA tells the crew that he has prepared a work schedule for them, but the crew walks off from him. While the crew work on the ship, Lamia and Kirara go sight seeing. Kirara spots wildlife on the planet and gets agitated. Lamia however thinks they're beautiful and walks over to inspect them more closely. Kirara seems scared by the wildlife and runs back to the ship.

As the pilots repair the ship Kirara comes running over to them. He starts to shake the piece of scaffolding that Shiro is standing on until he falls off it. Shiro asks what is wrong as Kirara is clearly disturbed by something. Hercules thinks that Kirara is trying to tell them that Lamia is in trouble, so Shiro and Hercules go off with him to check whilst Lee continues to work on his own.

Lamia talks to the creatures that have been hiding and tells them that she won't harm them. Three creatures appear from behind some plants. Shiro, Hercules and Kirara arrive and warn Lamia that it is dangerous to go out alone on the strange planet. The creatures start to walk toward Lamia. Shiro shoots one of them and kills it, to Lamia's disgust. She calls the creatures 'Mon Mons' and simply believes they only wanted to be friends. Shiro and Hercules do not trust alien creatures, and were trained to kill potential alien threats,

After the crew all return to X-Bomber, Lee asks Dr. Benn about the Mon Mons. Dr. Benn is curious to what they are talking about, as he has know creatures. PPA tells everyone that the Mon Mon's can be seen out the window so Dr. Benn goes to have a look.

As everyone has a look, Lamia has a word with Shiro and likens her situation to the Mon Mon's. If it weren't for Shiro's father, Professor Hagen, she could have suffered a similar fate. As Dr. Benn, Lee and Hercules look out the window at the Mon Mon's, Dr. Benn believes they are harmless, but Hercules says it looks like they are about to attack. PPA informs the Doctor that time is of the essence if they are to keep on schedule. Dr. Benn tells the crew to prepare for launch.

However the Mon Mons climb onto the ship, blocking the engines intakes. Meanwhile Makara's ship has made planetfall. She tells Orion to fire a laser torpedo into the nearby volcano, which triggers an eruption. Dr. Benn orders Hercules to fire on the Mon Mons to scare them off - if they're sucked into the ship they'll cause serious damage to the engines. Lamia comes in and protests, telling the Doctor that she can talk to them rather than harm the creatures, but Dr. Benn says there isn't enough time.

Hercules goes to fire, but Shiro runs after him and tells him not to hurt them, but Hercules argues that if they don't open fire at the Mon Mons' they are going to die from the erupting volcano. Shiro decides to fire at the creatures instead of Hercules and sits in the gunner's seat.

Makara and her ship close in on the grounded X-Bomber as the lava approaches. Dr. Benn orders Shiro to 'do his duty' and fire at the Mon Mon's. Shiro fires and the Mon Mon's flee from the engines.

Makara follows X-Bomber and orders her crew to open fire on the ship to bury it in lava. X-Bomber takes off and avoids Makara's attack. X-Bomber waits for Makara's ship to get into range and then returns fire on her Alliance Cruiser with laser torpedoes from her wing tips.

Dr. Benn orders X-Bomber set course for beta sector, whilst Makara's ship suffers with a fire in the engineering section. The damage to Makara's ship allows X-Bomber to get away. As Makara orders the fire extinguished, she is interrupted by The Imperial Master via hologram. He orders Makara return to the Thalian Zone immediately. Makara begs him via her symbiotic eye-patch to allow them to continue. The Master refuses, Makara's incompetence and failure to find F-01 is a disgrace; they are to return for punishment. Makara blames Orion for the failure of their mission, and has every intent to tell the Master this lie. She orders her ship to head back for the Thalian Zone.

Back on X-Bomber, Lamia apologizes to Shiro for letting her emotions get in the way of her sense of duty. Dr. Benn tells her that the compassion she feels for all creatures is a gift and when everyone can feel as she does, the world will be at peace. X-Bomber continues its search for the Skull.

Trivia[]

  • Stock footage from the Pilot, Scramble X-Bomber and Find F-01 is used.
  • The English version cuts the rather graphic scenes of the Mon Mon's being shot on screen or blown to bits. This is one of the only significant times anything is cut from the English version.
