Star Fleet is a UK VHS and Betamax distributed by Thorn EMI in 1984. It contains edited and spliced together versions of Wipe Out the Transport Fleet and The Mysterious Ship, Skull.
Unlike the other UK VHS releases of The Thalian Space Wars and Space Quest for F-01, this VHS was a straight-up episode release, even if the episodes were edited together.
Description[]
A NEW SERIES OF ACTION-PACKED ADVENTURES FOR CHILDREN, WITH MARVELLOUS SPECIAL EFFECTS.
The year is 2999. A Star Fleet Cruiser from Earth's far-off colony on Pluto is destroyed by an alien warship. Earth's latest spaceship, the magnificent X-Bomber, with its brave crew of astronauts, androids, giant robot and the beautiful girl Lamia, is despatched to defend the galaxy. Far out in Space are their enemies - the Imperial Alliance - led by the demonic Commander Makara, half-male half-female, and his hideous assistant, Captain Orion...
Episodes[]
Trivia[]
- This video comes from 35mm prints as opposed to the 16mm used for the English master tapes, so the footage is better quality.
- This tape is mostly uncut, though some cuts include, removal of the 'next episode' recaps and the ending of Episode 4 and opening of episode 5.
- This VHS was given as a prize when Brian May went on The Saturday Show (1982-1984), hosted by Tommy Boyd, touting Star Fleet Project in 1984. If the viewer called in and guessed the name of the robot on the cover, they would win the album, this tape and a Star Fleet T-Shirt.
- This Tape was advertised in the July 30, 1983 issue of Look-in Magazine. The episode descriptions however seem to more be describing Episodes 1 and 2.
Notes[]
- While she is acknowledged as being half-male, half-female, Commander Makara is referred to as male on the VHS description, whilst she is biologically female. Her symbiotic facial attachment speaks with a male voice.
- The description refers to the cruiser being destroyed in Episode 1, but this episode is not on this VHS.
